SUMMARY:



Claims focus - Designs, develops and delivers training programs for new and existing employees in group and individual settings. Identifies ways to continuously improve learning programs and tie programs to the claim department's mission and goals. Works with managers and employees to identify methods of improving employee performance. Recommends training tools and formats.



RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:



Claims focus for Training Specialist II


  • Participates in the design and development of complex training plans/curriculum
  • Conducts training needs analysis
  • Maintains and enhances relationships with management to develop claim staff including special requests from management.
  • Designs and develops complex training modules/courses, materials and evaluations.
  • Identifies and implements training efficiencies through technology
  • Develops, coaches and mentors trainers
  • Researches best practices and emerging trends in employee education and training.
  • Maintains current knowledge of changes in legal and medical practices through coordinating staff attendance at relevant seminars and workshops as well as attending and then disseminating knowledge to claims staff.
  • Measures and evaluates training outcomes and effectiveness of training
  • Evaluates training compliance
  • Conducts training
  • Works with minimal supervision
  • Represents the department on committees and projects
  • Maintains strict confidentiality
  • Develops, prepares and/or completes necessary reports and manuals
  • Assists in the development and implementation of new and revised policies, practices, and procedures.



    Additional Responsibilities for Senior Training Specialist (Claims)


  • All responsibilities of Training Specialist II, plus:
  • Leads large-scale, enterprise-wide/cross brand training initiatives including project planning and organization, assessment of resource requirements, Developing/conducting user needs assessments, overseeing/coordinating and participating in program content development and delivery
  • Acts as backup in the absence of management
  • Serves as the learning and education advisor for the team
  • Works with subject matter experts at all levels to design and develop targeted knowledge training
  • Serves as department liaison to support enterprise and brand initiatives
  • Coaches subject matter experts at all levels on training preparation and delivery
  • Facilitates small and large group meetings





    EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:



    EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT

    EXPERIENCE:



    Bachelor degree in Communications, Education, Business or related field. Master's degree preferred. Progress toward, or completion of, industry-recognized professional designation preferred. Continuous learning required, as defined by AFHI's learning philosophy. Certification, or progress toward, highly preferred and encouraged.





    EXPERIENCE:



    Training Specialist II - Claims:

    Five (5) years in an education or training environment which provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities with demonstrated application of knowledge in the following areas: training, analytics, interpretation of data, process, procedure and workflow design, project management and user documentation.

    Or, three (3) years experience working in workers' compensation insurance with demonstrated public speaking, researching and training skills and two (2) years education and training experience.

    Senior Training Specialist -- Claims:

    Eight (8) years in an education or training environment which provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities with demonstrated application of knowledge in the following areas: adult learning; instructional design and training delivery; analytics; interpretation of data; process, procedure, and workflow design; project management and user documentation.

    Or, five (5) years experience working in workers' compensation insurance with demonstrated public speaking, researching and training skills and three (3) years education and training experience.



    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:



    Training Specialist II - Claims


  • All the SKA required for Training Specialist I, plus:
  • Effective oral/written communication and customer service skills are essential
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Power Point
  • Project management and organizational skills required
  • Ability to establish a personal rapport at all levels of the organization, especially internal customers and managers and to resolve conflicts in a professional manner
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
  • Ability to make competent, independent decisions
  • Ability to monitor and assess performance of others and make recommendations for improvement
  • Thorough knowledge of process, procedure and workflow design
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management abilities



    Senior Training Specialist - Claims


  • All SKA for Training specialist II, plus:
  • Leadership, planning, and organizational skills to act as training lead on large-scale, enterprise-wide/cross brand projects
  • Ability to approach problems/opportunities from a strategic perspective as well as an operational and tactical perspective
  • Ability to develop solutions to address strategic, operational and tactical problems/opportunities
  • Ability to handle unique situations by applying knowledge and experience in new situations
  • Ability to train others in program development and delivery
  • Ability to create a meaningful training program based on a variety of feedback methods (surveys, manager, director, and/or Vice President direct feedback).



    Desirable Education, Experience and/or Skills/Abilities:


  • Experience in a setting that provides insurance industry experience
  • Demonstrated application of conducting needs assessment and job task analysis
  • Thorough knowledge of eLearning theories and technology usage

    Claims


  • Attainment of or significant progress toward one of the following insurance industry designations: Associate in Claims(AIC) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Experience handling workers' compensation claims





    WORKING CONDITIONS:



    Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual hazards. Position requires up to 50% travel. Must possess a valid driver's license with a record that meets corporate standards.
