SUMMARY:



Responsible for providing direction and guidance to internal and external audit coordination staff to ensure audits and reviews performed by customers and external entities are planned, scheduled and conducted in a manner consistent with Corporate Policies and Procedures, management direction and customer needs. Lead and coordinate Service Organization Control (SOC) readiness, remediation, and audit activities. Coordinate all regulatory financial and market conduct examinations for AF Group states. Support NCCI Assigned Risk annual self-audits and On-site audits for AF Group. Coordinate all independent auditor's financial statement audit activities for Emerging Markets. Coordinate customer audit activities including onsite visits. Coordinate the assessment of risks, development of the audit plan, communication of audit results, and development of corrective action plans for external audits.

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and monitoring the audit coordination processes for the Corporate and IT Audit, Compliance & Advisory Services department (CITCAS). This position interacts routinely with the Company executives, directors, managers, and BCBSM. This role requires exercising discretion and judgment in assisting the general auditor and internal audit staff. Discretion and judgment are also required when communicating with executives and staff throughout the BCBSM enterprise.



RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:




  • Manage activities of a department including but not limited to planning, problem solving, staff development and communication.
  • Provide high level oversight and leadership.
  • Acts as the liaison for on-site audit activities between the enterprise and its customers and external entities. Duties include, but are not limited to: coordinating; handling requests; physical arrangements; obtaining documents; and compiling information.
  • Follows up on corrective actions and report progress to the general auditor. Communicates sensitive audit issues and results to management and BCBSM Audit Committee.
  • Prioritizes and follows-up on information and requests to and from the general auditor and the department.
  • Ensures the general auditor is aware of all upcoming deliverables and deadlines.
  • Assists leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of department goals.
  • Researches, compiles, assimilate, and prepare documents and reports for all areas across the enterprise, including the Audit Committee, senior management, and BCBSM.
  • Reads and screens incoming correspondence and reports; handles or forwards to appropriate person.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information processed as appropriate.
  • Support audit projects as time permits

    External Audit Coordinator Responsibilities


  • Works directly with all external auditors and regulators, serving as the main point of contact.
  • Coordinates external regulatory audits for Emerging Markets including financial and Market Conduct examinations for AF Group
  • Coordinates external financial statements audits for Emerging Markets
  • Supports NCCI Assigned Risk self audits for AF Group
  • Coordinates customer audits and questionnaires
  • Coordinates Service Organization Control (SOC) readiness, remediation, and audit activities
  • Coordinates and support Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) audits
  • Must exercise discretion and independent judgment in a variety of situations

    SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Manages departmental employees as shown on the organizational chart and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities according to the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:



    EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT

    EXPERIENCE:



    Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, information systems or related field. Advanced degree preferred. Progress towards or completion of, industry recognized professional designations; i.e. CISA (IS auditor), CPA (financial auditor) or CIA preferred. Continuous learning, as defined by the Company's learning philosophy, is required. Certification or progress toward certification is highly preferred and encouraged.



    EXPERIENCE:



    With proper education credentials, five (5) years of relevant experience which provide the necessary skills, knowledge and required abilities including two (2) years supervisory/management experience in a leadership role. At least 1 year demonstrated experience in auditing processes, advanced writing, workflow design, quality assurance standards and/or documentation, Experience in the insurance, health care or finance industry preferred.



    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:




  • Basic knowledge of internal controls and audit techniques.
  • Basic understanding of applicable laws, rules and regulations governing audit activity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to compose correspondence.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, email and other software specific to the needs of internal audit.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work.
  • Excellent skills in proofreading of documents for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and presentation.
  • Significant ability to establish work flows, manage multiple projects, and meet necessary deadlines while maintaining proper relations between executives, managers, and customers.
  • Ability to manage responsibilities and unexpected pressures/dilemmas.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to comprehend consequences of various situations and make appropriate individuals aware of same for decision making.
  • Ability to exchange information clearly and concisely and to present ideas, report facts, and other information.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and to apply instructions and guidelines in the disposition of problems.
  • Ability to use diplomacy, discretion, and appropriate judgment when addressing callers.
  • Ability to perform other assignments at locations outside the office.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents of technical and financial information.
  • Ability to effectively present information and or facilitate in a group setting.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to effectively analyze factors concerning risk and liability. Identify and resolve problems.



    WORKING CONDITIONS:



    Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual hazards. Minimal travel may be required.
