Job Description



SUMMARY:



Reporting to the Controller, GAAP Accounting, the Manager, Reconciliations and Controls will be responsible for ensuring all reconciling items are resolved within guidelines, implementing exception reporting and identifying any potential issues and providing remediation. The position will also facilitate the assessment of root cause analysis and advise remediation. Success in this role requires the ability to embrace new technology, demonstrating the leadership and communication skills necessary to drive and sustain improvements as well as champion change.



RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:



Review exceptions for quality and consistency and alignment with policies


  • Manage internal and external audit requirements
  • Develops and implements tactics that support operational efficiency, risk mitigation, legal and regulatory compliance and financial responsibility
  • Regularly evaluates technology, policies, procedures, and customer communications that relate to these processes, and makes recommendations for changes when appropriate
  • Uses a variety of data sources to understand the root cause of process errors and consumer complaints
  • Acts with a sense of urgency to implement business process, policy, communication, and/or technology changes to resolve those issues.
  • Participate in development of annual departmental budget, monitor budget and identify budget discrepancies. Research cause and make recommendations.
  • Responsibility for balancing workload to optimize the effectiveness of the department.

    DIRECTION EXERCISED:

    Directly supervises exempt and non-exempt staff in accordance with company policies and applicable Federal and State Laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to effectively interviewing, hiring, terminating, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; supporting and encouraging the engagement process.

    EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:





    EDUCATION:



    Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. Continuous learning, as defined by the Company's learning philosophy, is required. Certification or progress toward certification (CPA, CPCU) is highly preferred and encouraged. Strong personal computer and business solutions skills are necessary.





    EXPERIENCE:



    MANAGER:

    Seven years experience in a corporate accounting environment with demonstrated technical experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. Three years supervisory or leadership experience in finance or accounting required. Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral are critical to success. Previous insurance related accounting experience preferred.



    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:




  • Provide management, leadership, and development to the Bank Reconciliation team and ensure accurate and timely completion of daily and monthly reconciliations of all bank accounts
  • Must demonstrate leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise professional and non-professional staff and interact with all levels of management
  • Ability to work with and empower others on a collaborative basis to ensure success of unit team
  • Ability to effectively exchange information, in verbal or written form, by sharing ideas, reporting facts and other information, responding to questions and employing active listening techniques
  • Ability to effectively present budgetary and/or cost information, and respond to questions as appropriate
  • Ability to establish workflows, manages multiple projects, and meets necessary deadlines
  • Effectively work with other members of management and departments to resolve outstanding items in a timely manner
  • Create, monitor, and report on department performance metrics around timeliness, accuracy, and other key measures
  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned



    WORKING CONDITIONS:



    Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual hazards.
