Job Description


This position will provide effective management, leadership and strategy in the planning and implementation of security policies, services, and compliance to protect enterprise personnel, facilities, and at all enterprise brand locations. The Manager, Corporate Security will Manage the AF Group Enterprise Services group, which includes the security function for all locations, and serves as an internal enterprise security manager to the other enterprise brands. Serves as a subject matter expert on local and enterprise issues and as a security resource for human resources and other business partners at their respective facilities. Acts as a liaison to all enterprise departments on security measures, procedures, and needs. Develops and contributes to the development and implementation of consistent safety and emergency procedures, responds to incidents, and resolves problems or requests assistance of local authorities.


  • Conducts security assessments of enterprise facilities, properties, and processes.
  • Submits written recommendations to mitigate risks related to threats, personal harm, property damage or loss, and fire, safety or other environmental hazards.
  • Provides training for security officers and coordinates staffing issues to address security concerns.
  • Establishes and manages processes to secure buildings, property, and personnel to assure proper security compliance with fire and safety codes.
  • Investigates and writes security incident reports regarding critical incidents.
  • Provides security and safety for AF Group special events as required and consults with brand locations on security plans for special events, as necessary.
  • Develops security management plans, policies, and procedures. Provides direction to security staff on how to manage incidents and activities.
  • Provides safety and security training for enterprise employees.
  • Participates on various local committees, including Health and Safety and Business Continuity. Immediate responses to significant threats to corporate employees or assets (e.g. bio-terrorism or bomb threats, fire, inclement weather, workplace violence, etc.)
  • Manager is on-call 24 hours, seven days a week for emergencies affecting the workplace.
  • Serves as a liaison and creates alignment with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan security.
  • Works at the direction of Human Resources as requested to investigate threats of violence or other employee issues, assists during employee disciplines/dismissals, and facilitates the return of company property.
  • Serves as a liaison with all local law enforcement agencies and enterprise law enforcement agencies as required at enterprise properties and facilities.
  • Works with Facilities Director with regards to identity, access and alarm management, and surveillance systems at Lansing Headquarters and all enterprise locations as required. Serves as a consultant and resource for similar enterprise activities.
  • Develops and monitors the annual departmental budget, investigates discrepancies and makes recommendations.
  • Responsible for balancing workload to optimize the effectiveness of the department.
  • As necessary, performs duties identified in the Security Officer job description.


    Directly manages exempt and non-exempt staff (including remote employees at other locations) in accordance with company policies and applicable Federal and State Laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to effectively interviewing, hiring, terminating, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and supporting and encouraging the engagement process.




    Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, homeland security, business or related field. Combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Continuous learning, as defined by the Company's learning philosophy, is required. Certification or progress toward certification is highly preferred and encouraged.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Requires valid Michigan driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain board certification as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) within established time frame.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license with no excessive traffic violations
  • Current certification in CPR, AED and Basic First Aid from American Heart Association, American Red Cross or National Safety Council. (Required)
  • Crisis intervention training to including communication skills in crisis response situations


    Five (5) years experience in law enforcement or related area. Requires at least two (2) years of experience in supervising staff within a security/law enforcement environment, preferably in a corporate setting. Must possess and maintain a favorable background/security check and valid Michigan driver's license.


  • Leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise professional and non-professional staff and interact with all levels of management.
  • Ability to work with and empower others on a collaborative basis to ensure success of unit team.
  • Knowledge in Protected Health Information (PHI), HIPPA guidelines, Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) or National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
  • Ability to effectively presenting, in verbal or written form, by sharing ideas, reporting facts and other information, responding to questions, and employing active listening techniques to all levels of the enterprise.
  • Ability to effectively prepare and present budgetary and/or cost information, and respond to questions as appropriate.
  • Working knowledge of integrated electronic systems including access control, alarm and local/remote closed circuit technologies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to remain calm under emergency situations.
  • Computer experience preferred for identity, access and alarm management, surveillance systems, and general office applications.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to develop, propose, and implement security and safety policies and strategies as required.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply the principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to make competent, independent decisions.
  • Ability to establish workflows, manage multiple projects, and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Ability to perform other assignments at all enterprise locations and facilities.
