  • Responsible for designing and overseeing innovation concept experiments, small pilots, and formalized pilots. This individual will work closely and collaboratively with other team members and designs the steps that move an idea forward to a productization concept. A rigorous experiment or pilot may advance a concept towards product stage by a business unit, identify the need for additional increments of pilot, or may produce results that eliminate a concept from further consideration. Experiments designed by the Experiments Design Lead will require extensive input from various domain experts, and a formal approval methodology. The Experiments Design Lead will identify such methodologies and implement them in Business Lab and with the broader organization as appropriate. The Experiments Design Lead will infuse extensive healthcare best practices and innovation best practices into the approach and identify and refine on an ongoing basis the optimal rapid assessment technologies to advance innovation. The Experiments Design Lead will lead the identification and creation of experiments that they may, in turn, serve as lead on conducting. They will also identify design that at times, others will take lead on conducting. In either case, they will continue to track innovation experiments and ensure ongoing evaluation of results as well as a rigorous final assessment and report. The Experiments Design Lead will have a deep organizational awareness of domain experts in health insurance, patient care, and other areas, and a deep understanding of Business Unit aims. They will also be responsible for ongoing strong proactive communication and feedback on experiments, across the organization.


    • Work with team to Identify best experiment and pilot candidates, using a formalized methodology that is created and overseen by Experiment Design Lead.
    • Introduce and implement a methodology to ensure innovations are assessed from an overall productization and potential organization value perspective.
    • Create and drive forward effective right-size, agile and incremental experiments and pilots on innovation concepts.
    • Monitor performance of ongoing experiments.
    • Evaluate final performance of experiments and work with team as necessary to generate related reports.
    • Establish strong communication across the organization on experiments, both sharing progress and soliciting the right level of domain expert opinion on shaping experiments and pilots.
    • Work with analysts to further model out, and challenge, the financial projections of a concept potential into productization. In some cases, this may require extensive scenario forecasting and simulating, potentially with advanced technology tools.
    • Support the innovation department's business development process which include planning, budgeting, reporting, problem solving, risk and issues management, communications, vendor management, and implementation.
    • Determine funding requirements for each relevant step in the concept development process.
    • Mentor and educate business partners and company leadership on best practices innovation concept experiments, the utilization of best practices, resource allocation, project prioritization, plan development, risk analysis, scope and budget requirements.
    • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, processes, procedures, and systems.
    • Participate in development of annual departmental budget, monitors results, identifies variances and makes recommendations.
    • Serve as a member of any relevant advisory groups providing project guidance and innovation updates.
    • Work with minimum supervision and exercise sufficient discretion and independent judgment.
    • Maintain confidentiality of innovation research and work efforts.
