Job Description


The Deputy Head of Information Technology at AF Group is responsible for maintaining an effective organizational team and motivating a diverse staff to accomplish mission critical operations and objectives. This position will be directly responsible for developing, operating, and incrementally improving a catalog of IT services that drive AF Group's strategy. Additional responsibilities include new technology implementation and development efforts, enterprise architecture, maintenance and support of existing systems, hardware systems support, telecommunications support, and user/customer help desk for the enterprise. This position reports to the Head of IT.


  • Execute the IT alignment and other IT capability driving initiatives for the enterprise.
  • Drive the strategy for enterprise technology solutions ensuring these solutions are aligned with overall business strategies and capabilities.
  • Responsible for managing value proposition, ensuring that IT creates, delivers and realizes the promised benefits and benefits achieved are communicated back to the business as it relates to areas of responsibility.
  • Oversee and meet/exceed key metrics and achieve defined outcomes, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Ensure all Digital Transformation (DT) projects and systems are transitioned into IT successfully.
  • Continue to enrich our talent in IT by growing our employees and bringing in talented members.
  • Ensure all corporate projects have appropriate IT involvement and resources.
  • Manage the departmental expense plan.
  • Provide leadership to direct reports by establishing the criteria for successful human resource management, project management, quality controls, and key process standards.
  • Build relationships and create synergies across the enterprise to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions.
  • Oversee quality, timeliness, and cost of project deliverables.
  • Participate in governance committees and drive the development of enterprise technology standards, processes and performance metrics to ensure that IT delivers value to the enterprise.
  • Ensure all audit findings are closed out, following company processes.
  • Work in collaboration with Information Security to protect company assets IT is responsible for.


    Directly supervises exempt and non-exempt staff in accordance with company policies and applicable Federal and State Laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to effectively interviewing, hiring, terminating, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; supporting and encouraging the engagement process.

    This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.




    Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. Continuous learning, as defined by the Company's learning philosophy, is required. Certification or progress toward certification is highly preferred and encouraged.


    Ten years or more of progressive responsibility in an IT environment in the insurance industry with demonstrated leadership abilities. Five years or more experience in a business role in the insurance industry highly preferred.

    Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual hazards. Travel is required
