Job Description

This position will articulate business challenges and requests in technology terms and the development of small to medium business cases to convert requests/recommendations and deliverable solutions.


  • Proposing solutions for business ideas, suggestions, problems and requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive requirement specifications as part of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to define functional and non functional requirements that Business Analysts and Developers will use to change new or currently deployed solutions.
  • Support optimization of the SDLC process to ensure quality and timely delivery of automated solutions.
  • Define business cases and Cost Benefit Analyses that effectively inform prioritization decisions.
  • Collaborate with QA team to ensure traceability between defined test cases and elicited testing requirements.
  • Collaborate with Development team to ensure effective hand off of requirements and identification of requirements defects.
  • Support capacity planning to optimize the effectiveness of the department.
  • Support estimation process which includes business users, development representatives, and testing representatives.
  • Support implementation of application life cycle management (ALM) tools along with QA Manager.
  • Identify and implement optimal process improvements to ensure effective capture of functional requirements for both enhancement projects and defect resolution.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations as necessary to communicate advantages of system and process changes.
  • Assists in leading organization and execution of user acceptance testing.
  • Assists in the management of vendor relationships including priority of deliverables.
  • Builds relationships with key business unit resources to gain understanding of overall business unit direction.
  • Support IT activities for small to medium business initiatives using appropriate project management methodology.
  • Performs peer reviews for fellow Business Analysts business requirements ensuring conformity to standards and quality.
  • Prepares status and management reports as required.
  • Responsible for configuration changes in systems.

    Additional Responsibilities for Data Analysis:

  • Contributes and participates in the development and maintenance of the Enterprise Information Management strategy.
  • Interface with BSA, testing, DBA, Application Support and Technical Support staff.
  • Adapt existing methodologies to Data Warehouse disciplines.
  • Assist the data architect with creating subject area and business enterprise models.

    Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, business administration, or related field. Combinations of relevant education, certifications, and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Continuous learning, as defined by the Company's learning philosophy, is required. Certification or progress toward certification is highly preferred and encouraged.


    Three years of progressive responsibility in an IT or business environment with demonstrated technical knowledge which provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities. Experience within the insurance industry highly preferred.

    Additional Data Analysis Experience:

    Three years of progressive responsibility in an IT or business environment with demonstrated technical knowledge which provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities. Experience querying, analyzing, or managing data required. Experience in Data Warehousing/ Business Intelligence preferred. Experience within the insurance industry highly preferred.


  • Working knowledge of business applications, interfaces, network services, and software.
  • Knowledge of business analysis methods, and/or statistical analysis capabilities.
  • Strong technical skills to perform analysis and problem solving using a variety of software tools.
  • Ability to be innovative, creative, and think outside of the box when presented with roadblocks.
  • Ability to solve practical problems in potentially chaotic environments
  • Ability to support the resolution of technological challenges such as, work flow, scheduling, testing processes and procedures.
  • Ability to fully understand impacts to other areas and project inter-dependencies.
  • Defines Business Models, Process Models, Data Models, Workflow Models, and Object Models.
  • Ability to follow processes and standards for systems or data analysis methods using current (and emerging) industry approaches such as Business Process Management (BPM), Business Process Integration, or Data Modeling with appropriate data warehousing and business intelligence architecture and design methodologies.
  • Knowledge of application of departmental procedures, processes and work flows.
  • Ability to create functional documents such as requirement documents, statements of work, proposals, use cases and other technical documentation standards.
  • Knowledge of the current state of the IT industry related to requirements gathering.
  • Ability to translate business goals into IT demand.
  • Working knowledge of project management tools and processes.
  • Functional and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to support projects using a variety of project management methodologies (bi-modal)
  • Understanding of organization's business goals and vision.
  • Ability to collaborate with business to define IT demand that meets business goals needs.
  • Ability to define all levels of business and technology requirements.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work with and empower others on a collaborative basis to ensure success of unit team.


    Work is performed mainly in an office environment with minimal hazards. Ability to work extended hours as needed. May be exposed to temperatures which may be cooler than a normal office setting. Travel may be required.
